doctor appointment and other interesting tidbits.

Connor and Chloe had their one month check-up. Yes, I realize they are six weeks, but that's how timing worked out with their discharge date and first round of Hepatitis B vaccinations. Chloe weighed in at 8 pounds, 15 ounces and 20 inches long. Connor followed at 8 pounds, 14 ounces and 20.5 inches long. They are keeping neck and neck in height and weight! They are both 10-25% for height and weight and progressing in a nice pattern up the chart. They both did well with their shot, just cried for a short time, then quickly settled down. They both peed on the scale again.......darn kids! LOL!

They have outgrown newborn size diapers and have moved into size 1. We tried to use up all the newborn size....but their chubby legs just were not allowing it! They are still able to wear some newborn size clothes and are starting to wear 0-3 month clothes. Chloe has had some fussiness that we think may be gas, so I started to fortify the breast milk with a different formula and will use that formula (Similac Advance Soy) instead of NeoSure when we feed her formula. Hopefully that will make a difference and help her to feel better.

Ok, the babies are sleeping.....need to switch out the laundry and get some cleaning done!

photo post.

Just sharing some recent photos......

the top 15 stupid things people say to the parents of twins.....

No, these are not from personal observations! I received this list on a twin parents group I'm in.

15. “I could never do it.” (Oh really. What would you do? Are you suggesting I put them on the curb with signs around their necks that say, “Free to a good home. My mom can’t do it.”?)
14. “Do they have different personalities?” (No. They are the same human being divided into two parts.)
13. Said by a stranger, “They’re identical, right?” Mom answers, “No. They’re fraternal.” Stranger response, “They are NOT!” (OK. You’re right. I have no idea what I’m talking about. These are not my children. I thought it would be fun to borrow them from a mom down at Baby Gap. It’s been more than an hour. I guess I should return them.)
12. “Are they ‘paternal’ twins?” (Yes. They have a father. There was only one virgin birth.)
11. “Just wait till they’re older. It only gets harder.” (Thank you. I woke up this morning hoping I’d receive a word of discouragement while pushing a cart of preschoolers down the cereal aisle.)
10. “When one cries, does he wake the other?” (No. Twins cannot hear each other’s cries because they all communicate with their special telepathic language only.)
9. From a perfect stranger: “Were they in the same sac?” (Hello. Nice to meet you, too. Will you be sharing your gynecological history with me as well?)
8. “Are they developmentally behind?” (Well, let’s see. They’re 3 years old and thus far, all their graduate school applications have been denied. We’ll get back with you on that.)
7. “How do you do it?” (Haven’t you seen the Nike commercials?)
6. Said by a dentist: “I was shocked that they didn’t have the same bite patterns.” (They are two different human beings, not clones.)
5. “You must be SO busy.” (Are you volunteering to clean my house?)
4. Said to a mom of fraternal twins who are different sizes, have different eye color and different face structure: “How do you tell them apart?” (I just look at them.)
3. “What do you do when they both cry at the same time?” (Sometimes I cry. Sometimes I go to Starbucks.)
2. Said to a mom of boy/girl twins: “Are they identical?” (Uh. Not exactly.)
1. Only one comment could be voted No. 1. The choice was clear. Drum roll, please. After a stranger had been informed that the toddler boys were twins, she asked a simple question: “Are they brothers?” (Enough said.)
Let’s be honest. People are fascinated with twins. They don’t mean to say stupid things. It just happens. It happens to all of us. Saying stupid things is one activity that joins us all together as human beings. Learn to forgive the frailties of others and enjoy the laughs later. Life is a journey. Enjoy the double-stroller roller coaster ride!

Happy one month old!

Ok, it was officially on Saturday...but I did take pictures yesterday to share here! I'll be taking their monthly pictures with the teddy bear shown in these photos...that way we can watch how much they are growing!

Here they are:

Connor

Chloe

Outgrowing preemie clothes!

Yep...we are outgrowing some of our preemie clothes! We are trying to wear them a few more times until they are TOO small and uncomfortable. I guess we are getting enough to eat!

Here we are wearing outfits from Chad's sister, Joy. Just a short time ago, the legs and arms of the outfits were too long! Not sure if we can squeeze another wear out of these or not!

We have another weight check at the doctor's on Thursday. It will be interesting to see what we weigh in at!

I'll share one month pictures soon!

if you are happy and you know it.......

raise your arms.

If you are happy and you know it, raise your arms......do you remember that song from grade school music class? Somehow I do and these pictures remind me of this!

We are 4 weeks old! Actually, we were 4 weeks old yesterday....but mommy was busy being a mommy and didn't have time to post!

The visit with grandma and grandpa is going great. We sure like being held all the time. We like to be warm!

Mommy and daddy took each of us outside yesterday. It was nice to get some sun, even if we were shaded from the bright light. I heard rickets is painful.....they kept mentioning it.....

That's about it for now. Mommy wants us to nap so she can catch a few winks....I don't see any winks, so not sure what she's talking about....guess she's sleep deprived!

first doctor appointment.....

The heavyweights have spoken.......obviously, the little chunky babies do not have an issue with eating! Here are the stats from their 3 week/one week post discharge doctor check up:

Chloe:
Birth weight: 4 pounds
3 week, one day weight: SIX POUNDS ONE OUNCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Birth length: 17 1/4 inches
current length: 17 3/4 inches
current head measurement: 13 inches (I only have the CM measurement from birth)

Connor:
birth weight: 4 pounds, 11 ounces
current weight: SIX POUNDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Birth length: 17 1/2 inches
Current length: 18 1/4 inches
current head measurement: 13 inches.

Unbelievable! It's so nice to see them growing and gaining weight. We knew they were both gaining as they are filling out nicely, but to see them both over six pounds is amazing! Their doctor did not have any concerns for either of them. As for Chloe's sleep issues, she suggested trying to have her sleep in her car seat to see if she does better with her head elevated. We will go back in two weeks for another weight check with the nurse and in one month for their hepatitis B shot.

Both Connor and Chloe peed on the scale......little stinkers! Oh well......what can you expect!

Chad and I are heading out to Babies R Us later today to pick up a few things we need. The babies did very well while out for their doctor appointment, so I hope they do well during the longer trip to the store!

That's about it for now.

Three weeks old!

It's hard to believe our babies are three weeks old already! Here is a run down of how things are going:

Chloe:
LOVES to eat. She will down her bottle in a few minutes, refusing to let go of the bottle until it's good and empty.
She gets bad, bad, bad gas.....we have changed a few things (using bottled or filtered water) and giving Mylicon drops after each feeding. Things are a little better....
She has chubby-chubby cheeks! We love them.
She loves to be held and is often calmed pretty quickly if we pick her up when she's fussing, unless of course she's dealing with gas.
Was a little fussy during her first bath earlier this week, but quieted down once she got used to everything.

Connor:
Is a pokey eater and often savors the bottle, taking his time finishing it.
Has started to breastfeed again. I tried yesterday during the day and he did ok. Today, he had two good breastfeeding sessions. Hopefully I can increase the amount of sessions and get him almost to total breastfeeding.
Has gas issues, but not as bad as Chloe. But, we are giving him the Mylicon drops anyway, just to prevent any issues.
Enjoys swinging in the swing and taking a nap while in it.
Enjoyed his first bath earlier this week. No fussing at all and tolerated the quick wash down!

Chad and I are adjusting well to parenthood. Last night, we did not get the best sleep, as they took turns being cranky. Luckily, we each took a shift to allow each other to get some solid sleep at some point. I even was able to take a 3 hour nap this morning.

The babies see their regular doctor for the first time tomorrow. It will be interesting to see how their weights increased! We have a list of questions, as I'm sure all new parents have, to figure out and help ensure we are doing the right things!
